Origin and History
The Lagotto Romagnolo is one of the very old water breeds. Mention is made of Lagotto in the 17th century as "vallaroli" (lagoon Hunter) used therefore in marsh and Morastgebieten. His task was then to find and retrieve from geschossenem waterfowl. The water dogs typical, ruffled, slightly oily fur made it possible to work intact even in the icy water. The Lagotto is up to 48 cm tall and 16 kg in weight, it is a well-proportioned (square), powerfully built dog. His fur is woolly, slightly rough surface, with tightly rolled annular curls. The coat of the Lagotto Romagnolo may be colored variety: Solid color dirty-white, off-white with brown or orange patches, uniformly brown in various shades, monochromatic orange or brown roan, brown to dark brown masks are allowed. The Lagotto does not shed.
Essence
The Lagotto Romagnolo is good educable. He is playful, fond of children, lively and alert, and work diligently. His natural talent for districts and its excellent sense of smell have favored its transformation into a truffle dog.
The Lagotto is a very good companion and guard dog and for different dog sports well suited.
